READ ALL ABOUT IT: The cinematography, color stories and symmetry of filmmaker Wes Anderson are a subject of great fascination for many in the design world, and a few New York companies are putting themselves in the spotlight.
With “The French Dispatch” hitting theaters nationwide on Friday, Searchlight Pictures has secured an unexpected and irreverent branding for the movie. Roman Coppola, Hugo Guinness and Jason Schwartzman made the story with Anderson. The movie focuses on a group of expatriate journalists from an American newspaper based in a fictional 20th century French town. They bring to life a series of stories from the latest edition of the newspaper.

For the next 10 days, “The French Dispatch” has taken over Casa Magazines and offers limited editions of The French Dispatch magazine. Warby parker pops up @Whalebone on Bleecker Street, which is temporarily transformed into Le Sans Blague Café from Friday to Sunday. Shoppers can also purchase French Dispatch tote bags and French Dispatch magazine from the eyewear brand’s Greene Street store for a limited time. Returning to the temporary French café, there’s the Special Edition Flying Coffee, an exclusive French roast coffee of single origin.
Such memories of Anderson-esque are sure to please Accidentallywesanderson’s 1.5 million Instagram followers. Creators send out an AWA newsletter twice a month. Meanwhile, dressing like Wes Anderson’s characters is explored from time to time by other outlets. Designers and brands are also known to borrow from the director’s style. Angry Miao on Tuesday released custom keyboards in an Anderson-inspired color scheme, such as “Budapest Pink” inspired by “The Grand Budapest Hotel” and “Aquatic Green”, imagined in “The Life Aquatic With Steve Zissou”.
For “The French Dispatch”, Anderson called on one of her must-have creative resources – famous four-time Oscar-winning costume designer Milena Canonero. She dressed Bill Murray, Tilda Swinton, Owen Wilson, Schwartzman, and the rest of the cast in Anderson-approved costumes. For now, online shoppers will have to settle for products inspired by French Dispatch, such as hoodies.
