DUBAI: Armani Hotels & Resorts and Diriyah Gate Development Authority (DGDA) announce plans to build a signature Armani hotel in the city of Diriyah, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, an area set to become an international cultural and lifestyle destination extraordinary inspired by the country’s rich heritage. Similar to current Armani Hotels & Resorts hotels in Dubai and Milan, the property will be managed by Emaar Hospitality Group.
The 300-year-old site just 15 minutes from Riyadh is the birthplace of the kingdom and the capital of the first Saudi state. The region is home to the UNESCO World Heritage Site, At-Turaif, the valley and lush palm groves of Wadi Hanifah, and will soon include the development of Diriyah, an acclaimed pedestrian-centric project that preserves the rich history and culture of Saudi Arabia. When complete, Diriyah will comprise 13 unique neighborhoods featuring museums, cultural institutions, fine dining, residences, hospitality, offices, retail and outdoor attractions. Development is a key driver of the Saudi Kingdom Vision 2030.
Giorgio Armani said: “It is a pioneering project born from the rediscovery of the roots of Saudi Arabia: a dialogue between history and the present that I find very fascinating. Armani Hotel Diriyah allows me to interpret my idea of lifestyle and hospitality in a particularly subtle and enveloping way. After celebrating the tenth anniversary of the opening of Armani Hotels in Milan and Dubai, I am ready to take on this exciting new challenge. I am inspired by this initiative and thrilled to be part of a project of such geographic and cultural significance..”
Jerry Inzerillo, Group CEO of Diriyah Gate Development Authority, commented: “It is an honor to partner with Armani Hotels on this prestigious project. Their elegant and forward-thinking approach to modern hospitality will bring a new dynamic to Diriyah’s hospitality offering and bring an exciting guest experience to the Kingdom. As we develop what will become one of the world’s great gathering places, rich in culture, history and authenticity, we are proud to partner with brands such as Armani who demonstrate a timeless approach to hospitality.
The third Armani property in the world, the Armani Hotel Diriyah represents a new interpretation of Armani hospitality, in dialogue with the unique architecture and landscape of the destination. Armani Hotel Diriyah, developed by Diriyah in collaboration with Mr. Giorgio Armani and his in-house interior design team and the architects involved in the design of the development, is characterized by essential lines that highlight the precious materials used, and a subtle interplay of volumes, shadow and light perfectly in tune with the aesthetics and landscape of Saudi Arabia.
Overlooking the ultra-luxury hospitality and retail district of Diriyah, it will feature 70 luxuriously designed rooms, two restaurants and an upscale spa, with suites featuring their own spa and pool, offering a variety of wellness, hospitality and relaxation experiences. The hotel is connected to approximately 18 exclusive and ultra-luxury Armani residences – designed and furnished by Armani – with spacious interiors and outdoor swimming pools, landscaped terraces and rooftops.
The Diriyah development is designed to become one of the most walkable towns in the Middle East and when completed will be a key cultural and heritage site. It was designed to honor the region’s heritage with traditional Najdi architectural design principles, including low-rise, compact and organic architecture, roof terraces, ornate gates and large courtyards. Each area of the development will be highly walkable with easy connections to area sites and attractions, ensuring that Armani Hotel Diriyah blends organically into this rich urban and cultural fabric.

Diriyah is on its way to becoming Saudi Arabia’s premier historical, cultural and lifestyle destination. Chosen by the Arab League Educational, Cultural and Scientific Organization as the Capital of Arab Culture for 2030, as part of the Kingdom’s Vision 2030, 11 square kilometers of Diriyah will be transformed into one of major historic tourist destinations in the world.
Diriyah is located in the province of Riyadh, just 15 minutes northwest of downtown Riyadh. It is recognized as a center of symbolic inspiration for generations of leaders who have ruled the Kingdom since the founding of the first Saudi state on February 22, 1727. As the renewed cultural and historical capital of the nation, Diriyah will be designed and built with Saudi traditions and heritage in mind. The traditional mixed-use urban community will be created in an authentic Najdi architectural style typical of Saudi villages of centuries past. Sitting in the cultural heart of Diriyah is the historic city of At-Turaif. Built in 1766, At-Turaif is recognized as one of the most important mud-brick cities in the world. Designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2010, it is now on its way to becoming one of the country’s must-see historic destinations.
With cultural and lifestyle experiences at its heart, Diriyah will be enriched with entertainment, learning, shopping, dining, hospitality, residential and work offerings. When completed, it will accommodate a population of 100,000 residents, workers, students and visitors and celebrate Saudi Arabia’s rich cultural history.
The development will feature an array of world-class cultural, entertainment, retail, hospitality, education, office and residential areas, including 38 hotels, a diverse collection of museums, a retail core lively and more than 100 restaurants. The existing Bujairi terrace will soon host Riyadh’s new high-end dining center, boasting stunning views of At-Turaif; and the 141-key Samhan Heritage Hotel. Wadi Hanifah, a two square kilometer space accessible from the escarpment promenade, will provide passive and active recreational spaces and characterful hospitality venues; places to relax and spend the afternoon with family and friends in the beautiful surroundings of the wadi.
