Christine Chiu embraced 2000s glamor at the Tom Ford Show

Alright, let’s back up a bit. What do you enjoy about attending New York Fashion Week?

NYFW is raw, fierce, vibrant and exciting! Streetstyle is infused with so much creativity and personality, and the tracks are filled with surprising talent. NYFW celebrates diversity in an authentic and effortless way that I’ve never seen other fashion weeks accomplish so powerfully. The spectrum of cultures infused into the designs, range and backgrounds from emerging to established designers, and the clash of highs and lows (downtown, downtown) during NYFW keeps me on the edge of my seat. NYFW is truly a global melting pot of art and flavor.

Thinking back to the week, is there a show that really stood out to you and why?

This NYFW has been one of anniversaries and celebrations, from the 25th anniversary of Fendi’s Baguette to the 40th of Dennis Basso to the 20th of Pamella Roland, the 150th of Bloomingdale’s, the 15th of Harlem’s Fashion Row and even the 20th from the Metropolitan Museum Friends of the Costume Institute. The vibe was coming together and honoring the industry and fashion people. In this same vein, vogueThe 130th anniversary celebration, via #VogueWorld, was an exceptional sight. #VogueWorld has not only attracted incredible talent both to the runway and to the seats; he created a unified vision with countless acclaimed designers and brands and also projected out loud a clear message of diversity, inclusivity and community in fashion. It was fun, quirky and out of this world!

New York is our first look at the trends that will dominate Spring 2023. Have you spotted one you’re particularly excited about?

As a little girl, I grew up in a purple house with shades of purple wallpaper, furniture, rugs, draperies and more because my mom loved the color so much! Needless to say, I’ve avoided lilac hues for most of my adult life. During this fashion week, Micaela encouraged a beautiful silky YSL suit in royal purple as a nod to my (deceased) mother and also to reintroduce this beautiful tone into my fashion palette. Micaela was onto something, as all variations of purple could be seen throughout this season’s runway collections. Sequins, silks and transparencies also seem to prevail on the catwalk for NYFW S/S 23.
