Wodd PH is a multi-award winning brand with broad environmental goals

Living in a tropical country, an essential accessory for summer lovers is a pair of sunglasses. Filipinos have always loved exploring islands, especially those with pristine beaches. With this, one cannot forget a pair of glasses for essential sun protection as well as for styling purposes. That’s why it’s such a smart idea to come up with a brand that is not only trendy but also sustainable.

Wodd PH, a one-of-a-kind sunglasses brand, is made from bamboo and wood. Established in 2018, it was founded by a group of friends who love adventure and are supporters of sustainability. “One of the reasons we launched a fashionable, sustainable and trendy product is our advocacy for sustainability. It is our passion and it is our identity ”, shares Dr Stephene Roy C. Condino, President of Wodd PH.

In addition to their sustainability efforts to limit the use of plastics, Wodd PH is also committed to the Haribon Foundation. As a bronze member, a tree is planted for every sunglasses purchased from the brand.

Wodd PH sunglasses feature several innovations, including authentic handmade bamboo frames, the latest technology from Cat. 3 UV400 lenses, polarized lenses that offer superior protection and spring loaded hinges that make the frames as durable as possible.

In this exclusive, Garage chats with President and Founder Dr. Condino to get more in-depth information about the brand and what to expect from Wodd PH going forward.

Of all the durable things, why sunglasses and watches?

As the co-founder of Wodd PH, we decided to offer sunglasses and watches because we were thinking of something trendy and unique in the market, and also practical. We’ve seen the rise of plastic and non-recyclable products in the market, and we’ve seen so much potential in sunglasses and watches. The majority of these sunglasses and watches available in the market are made of plastic which could harm the environment. It also contributes to climate change.

Why call the brand Wodd?

It is a derived idea to come up with a different name from wood, which is the main material we use for our sunglasses and watches with bamboo. I am Dr Stephene Roy C. Condino, MBA and with my business partner Mr Carmelo Valencia we believe this is the next big thing that could change the market landscape as it is the first of its kind.

Can you tell us more about your range of sustainable watches? What key features should we look for?

We launched the watch line two months ago. During the first month, we ran out of stocks. Our Wodd watches have five models: Wolford, Wellspring, Westwood, Willstone and Westhorn. Each model is carefully designed and handmade. Each watch is unique since the material used for one is unique from the other. For example, for the Wellspring variant, we use polyester wood. On the other hand, the Willstone model has a blue dial in the watch which stands out because it is made from black sandalwood and zebra wood. As for the Westhorn, it combines sandalwood and zebra wood.

Are your sunglasses cases made of cork? Can you tell us more about this?

Our cases are made from cork which can be folded flat if wearing sunglasses outdoors or while driving. It adds comfort and ease to the user, and it has a personal touch that will surely stand out in a crowd. It also limits the size of the sunglasses case that can be quickly put in your pocket or backpack during transport.

Are your tag loops made of abaca ropes as well?

It is also in sync with the materials we use for our bamboo sunglasses and watches. Abaca is a leaf fiber and is valued for its high mechanical strength, resistance to salt water damage, and long fiber length of up to 3 meters.

What can we expect from Wodd in the future?

We make sure that these companies we work with are local and have the same advocacy for sustainable development as ours. The list of these exclusive retailers is submitted to Haribon every month end for alignment. Today we are the fastest growing eyewear brand in the Philippines.

We are also a multi-award winning brand. For the first six months of this year, we have already received four awards. These awards were presented by Q Asia Publication, Elite Business, Leadership Award, Best Choice Awards and National Customers Choice Awards (NCCA). These awards see Wodd PH as the “best bamboo eyewear and sunglasses brand in the Philippines for 2021”.

So, in the future, we expect to receive additional awards that strengthen our position as the leading brand of bamboo sunglasses and watches in the Philippines. In addition, we will be launching new models of sunglasses in the coming months, with colored polarized lenses and frames made entirely of bamboo. As far as watches are concerned, we will be launching the new waterproof and automatic watches perfect for those who like to go to the beach, surf or go mountaineering.
